simonsound sound

Sound for sound's sake. Does there have to be a reason to enjoy listening? We don’t think so, and with that in mind we offer you a selection of audio just to stretch your ears a little. Enjoy.

My Noisy Matchbox
A clip of the 'sonic scrapbook' created by Portslade Community College pupils out of found sounds. These sounds formed the backdrop for an exciting contemporary dance piece also performed by Portslade Community College pupils. Read more about the project here.

Sleeping Steam Machines

A lullaby for the huge steam machines at Hove's Victorian Engineerium.  This piece is made from various recordings around the pumping station including the huge spanners found in a tunnel near one of the workshops - in fact the spanners are played like a glockenspiel to create the melody.

Rings of Saturn
Inspired by an evening spent studying Saturn's rings and created using simonsound's warm analogue synthesizers, this sound piece gives a nod to Raymond Scott's electronic work of the 50's and 60's.

Santa Pod Jet Car
Travelling at 336mph and covering a quarter of a mile in 6 seconds, the Santa Pod Jet car is fast and LOUD. Here is a binaural recording from trackside. You'll hear the warm up during which the pilot 'pops' the engine resulting in ear shattering booms, and then the thunderous roar as the car travels down the track.
